Berlin Art Week: Julien Jaca – Resonance of the Blossom

During Berlin Art Week 2025, ahorn Space presents French artist Julien Jaca with Resonance of the Blossom, an exhibition of powerful works exploring loss, impermanence, and transformation. At the opening, we’ll also be welcoming the project SargBar by the duo Death Positiv: a coffin transformed into a mobile bar that invites dialogue, exchange, and playful reflection on death and dying.

In Resonance of the Blossom, Julien Jaca’s expressive works find an unexpected yet perfect home within the introspective, boundary-pushing context of ahorn Space in Berlin. Known for its commitment to exploring themes of mortality, transformation, and the fragility of life, ahorn Space is a venue that engages with death not as a grim, finality-driven concept, but as an ongoing, open-ended process – a space for rethinking and reframing our relationship to endings and renewal.

Jaca’s vibrant paintings, abstract yet emotionally charged, embody this tension between fragility and strength. His flowers, which burst from dark, textured backgrounds, are metaphors for the paradoxes of life itself – beauty, vulnerability, and resilience coexisting. They emerge, often from chaos, in a way that suggests not only the inevitability of endings but the possibility of new beginnings, even in the most uncertain moments.

The resonance between Jaca’s work and the themes of ahorn Space is immediate and palpable: both address the need to face difficult, often taboo subjects head-on, embracing them as opportunities for transformation rather than fear.

On view: September 10 – 14 2025
Opening reception & SargBar: September 10, 5 – 8pm

Julien Jaca

Julien Jaca is a French artist and painter based in Hossegor on the Atlantic Coast. After studying at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, he left the academic path to pursue an international career as a tattoo artist. His travels brought him close to traditional art forms and craftsmanship, cultivating a deep respect for their honesty and spiritual resonance. In 2018, a profound personal loss deeply shaped his journey. Since then, Jaca has devoted himself to artistic expression, creating a diverse and evolving body of drawings, paintings, and sculptures.

Death Positiv & SargBar

A project by Verena Brunnbauer and Nicole Honeck. With their SargBar – a coffin transformed into a mobile bar – they create an unusual space for exchange, play, reflection, and encounter. As independent celebrants, their aim is to approach mortality with curiosity, openness, and lightness.
